About

The Retreat with Govinda Kai 10th -30th July 2023 , Kisnyalka, Hungary

In the 2023 we will continue our summer retreat series with Govinda Kai in Hungary. We will gather once again to take on an adventure of self-exploration.

In our modern life we often describe our selves by describing our physical appearance, our family, our history, our occupation, our studies, what we own, where we live, how much money we have, how many friends we have and so on. From where we often look it seems like that is Me that is Who I Am. But, this is just the surface or the outer covering of ourselves like our cloths are the outer covering of our body. Who Am I if I take away all these coverings, Who Am I in my essence? Can I experience newer and newer depth of my being? Can I feel more and more connected to my real self?

During the retreat we will aim to explore these question through various practices and techniques that will include: yoga, meditation, satsang, philosophy, mantra chanting and kirtan. All these practices will help us to connect and feel ourselves more deeply and help us explore our more essential nature, who we really are.

About Govinda Kai

Govinda has a unique teaching style where he blends the more formal practices and yoga philosophy in a way that touches most of his audience in a transformative way. Every retreat with Govinda is special in its own way but, the main theme is always based on looking within ourselves to gain much better understanding of our working. As we gain greater knowledge of ourselves the world around us also becomes more clear. This clarity helps us to see the world with a new eye where everyone and everything is greatly connected. We invite you to join us on this journey of self-exploration.

More about our guide Govinda Kai is of Japanese-American descent, born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area in California. From a very young age, Govinda took a passionate interest in meditation, yoga and spiritual philosophy. Govinda’s father, Edward Yamaguchi, was a highly respected practitioner and teacher of martial arts (he held a high ranking in both Judo and Aikido) and like Govinda, nurtured a strong attraction to spirituality and philosophy from a very young age. Govinda began the practice of martial arts while in high school and began yoga, meditation and devotional chanting at age 18, studying with respected teachers such as Swami Muktananda and Sogyal Rimpoche. After university, Govinda considered becoming a Buddhist monk, but was advised by his teacher, Sogyal Rimpoche to enter into a more worldly career. Thus, Govinda became a practicing professional in the area of real estate, all the while still devoting much of his time to spiritual practice. At the age of 30, Govinda discovered the practice of Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga and immediately fell in love with the practice. In 1995, Govinda made his first trip to Mysore, India to practice with Sri K. Pattabhi Jois. From 1995 to 2015, Govinda made over 20 trips to Mysore to practice Ashtanga with each trip lasting an average of 3-4 months. Govinda is one of a small number of teachers directly certified by Sri K. Pattabhi Jois to teach the ashtanga yoga method. In the past 30 years Govinda has traveled the world to teach workshops, hold retreats and run mid-term yoga programs in Europe, Asia and the US.
